Late Dr. Surendra Nath Sen (1865-1945)

Dr. Surendra Nath Sen was the nephew of the renowned social reformer of Calcutta, Sri. Brahmanand Keshav Chandra Sen. After completing his early education from Jaipur. He obtained his M.B.B.S. Degree from the famous Calcutta Medical College, and came to Kanpur in the third quarter of 1800s. Dr. Sen was popularly known as the Messiah of the poor for his boundless generosity and compassion.

He never charged any money from his poor patients. The Hindu orphanage was built on the piece of land donated by him as was the Indian Medical Association Hall. He established the Aadarsh Banga Vidhyalaya on Mall Road Kanpur to promote anglo - vernacular education among boys. Not only did he donate land for the college, but also had the main building constructed. He was compassionate towards all living beings. He established the “Jeev Daya Mandal” an institution which helped in building drinking water facilities for animals in the city.

He also built the only Bengali library in Kanpur named ‘Jogendro Smriti’ in the name of his father Mr. Jogendra Nath Sen in Karachi Khana Lane beside Mall Road in 1883. He was also the Founder President of Banga Sahitya Samaj. The College remains forever indebted to its founding forefather.

Late Dr. Siddheshwar Sen (1898-1981)

Dr. Siddheshwar Sen, son of the eminent social reformer Dr. Surendra Nath Sen, was born in 1898 in Kanpur. He inherited the legacy of social service and spirit of love for mankind at large from his illustrious father. He dedicated himself whole heartedly to the movement for educating girls which had been initiated by his father.

He completed his intermediate form Muir College, Allahabad and M.B.B.S. from Calcutta Medical College. He then returned to Kanpur which was to become his arena for carrying forward his selfless social service throughout his lifetime.

Throughout his lifetime he was associated with the Institutions which had been set up by his late father – A.B. Vidhyalaya Society, Balika Vidyalaya Society, Shri Hari Bhakti Pradayani Society. He was the President of the Banga Sahitya Samaj and Durga Badi. He also lent full support and assistance to women’s education, orphanages and widow-welfare organisations.

Mr. Sen, blessed with a magnetic and impressive personality, left for his heavenly adobe in 1981. The College gratefully showers tributes on this noble soul.

Late Sameer Kumar Sen (1925-2014)

Mr. Sameer Kumar Sen, the eldest son of Dr. Siddheshwar Sen, was born and educated in Kanpur. This eminent educationist needs no introduction. He surfed ahead with the noble social ideals of his ancestors with untiring zeal. He inherited his kindness and love for social service from his renowned grandfather anf father.

Mr. Sen, blessed with a simple and courteous personality, was popularly called ‘Dada Babu’ by his acquaintances and staff members. He took over the management of S.N. Sen Inter College and S.N. Sen Degree College in 1973. Along with this, he even retained his association with the various institutions established by his ancestors, such as Prachi Bang Bhawan, Durgbadi Sansthan, Nikhil Bharat Bang Sahitya Samaaj, Banga Library and the Hari Bhakti Pradayini Society. He was responsible for introducing Post Graduate Classes in the College in 1985.

He passed away on May 31st 2014, leaving the management of the college in the capable hands of his brother Mr. Probir Kumar Sen. The College family will always cherish memories of this noble soul.
